Traditional Warli art gets new glamour

Warli Painting, in its most genuine form, is the form of art where the Adivasis belonging to the Warli tribe in Maharashtra draw on the walls of their mud houses with rice flour.

The key features of this art include the beautiful contrast of white color on the mud walls and the simple shapes that are drawn to make an expressive composition.
Warli art is well acknowledged by art enthusiasts. Infact many home-owners are interested in incorporating a Warli painting or two in their interior decor plans.

However, this has been yet confined to getting a Warli design painted on the wall as is the original form, which at times is too sober for a modern home. Mr. Shrikant Vyawahare from Pune was also in the same dilemma whether he could get a Warli painting done for his home and get exciting results.

“I saw this extensive Warli work at a resort near Pune. These were definitely not paintings but indeed looked amazing. I found out more and came to know that these were Warli decals. Then I helped myself with more knowledge of decals and was I knew that a Warli decal would definitely suit my need. We are finalizing the design and eagerly looking forward to our Warli decal.”

Warli decals are nothing but decals made from Warli designs. This art form has an abundant variety of designs. There are animal-bird forms as seen in this gorgeous actual installation picture of a peacock decal or there are various composition themes as in the original art. The themes include festivals, farming, marriage, day-to-day village activities and more.

There are a variety of options how one can implement a Warli decal at his home. The most approved one is to get your wall painted burgundy/maroon which are mud-like colors and get a Warli decal installed on the same. Or you may also apply a patch of the burgundy-maroon colors on a specific part of a light-colored wall if you want a more prominent decal.

Enthusiasts have also tried to dodge the traditional colors of Warli form and installed Warli designs with different color combinations. The contrast combination, mud colored Warli design on a white background on a confined space on the wall also has its own appeal and aesthetic effect.

Mr. Vyawahare, however, is very elated about shifting to a decal from a painting and does not intend to experiment any further leaving much scope for something innovative to come up in the wonderful Warli Art-Wall decals combination.
