Ways to build terraced walls

If you are at a loss of ideas to make your plain landscape look attractive, we suggest you building terraced walls there. This endearing style of wall will add depth and unique character to the surroundings and alter the unexciting décor of your yard.

For uneven spaces also, terraced wall can be a blessing in disguise. It will enhance the flaws of a jagged space and add a tiered effect to it. The levels of terraced walls can also be put to some interesting use.

Here we advise you some ways to build terraced walls to get the idyllic ambiance:

Selection of blocks

The foremost step is to get the right kinds of blocks that have to be interlocked for making the terraced wall. Ask for such blocks that would be having a lip at their bottom for the perfect interlocking. This would also prevent the shifting of blocks at the time of installation or thereafter. The blocks meant for building terraced walls can be installed without any need of mortar, thus can be easily handled.

An imaginative pattern

Now, think of an attractive and inspired pattern for laying the selected stone blocks. Considering the available space, select the appropriate pattern that would transform uninteresting spaces into appealing landscape. While straight terraced walls are commonly seen, think of round, semi-circled or even zigzag terraced walls.

Laying the foundation

Since, the foundation of the terraced wall has to go deep under the ground, excavate the area appropriately. The excavated trench should be perfectly leveled for faultless placing and gripping of stone blocks. Carefully lay the first layer that would be going underground and consequent layers would automatically be laid perfectly. Place the blocks in a staggered way so that wall remains strengthened even in the absence of mortar. Garden gravel can be used to fill in the underground space and for imparting grip to the foundation level.

Design it well

As your terraced wall gets ready think up of innovative ways to make most of it. While it will make your front or backyard look fabulous, its tiers can be used to place decorative pottery, statues, potted plants, showpieces etc. They can also be illuminated with fancy lighting fixtures to make the spaces look like a paradise.
