The need for wall insulation

Insulating walls, interior as well as exterior, brings multitude of benefits. Though followed not very diligently, home owners are gradually waking to the advantages of wall insulation and exploring ways to get the walls of their homes insulated with the right technique.

Better energy efficiency

Homes with insulated walls are known to have better energy efficiency. The insulation helps by controlling the transfer of room temperature and allowing different rooms to maintain their individual temperatures. This is also helpful in retaining a room’s heating or cooling and thus controlling electricity bills.

Cost efective

Insulated walls help in maintaining the quality and longevity. There is less depletion of devices like heaters and air-conditioners, thus bringing cost-cutting to the household. On the contrary, walls without insulation do not barricade heat or cold and thus make the air-conditioning devices work harder, consequently shortening their life.

Soundproof ambience

Insulation of walls renders soundproof ambiance to interiors. In presence of multitude of household devices like mobile phones, televisions, music systems etc, high degree of dissonance is caused inside homes. With proper insulation, such cacophony can be avoided to a larger extent.

Increased property value

Homes with insulated walls are always preferred over ordinary ones for the privacy and peace offered by them. Consequently, they also fetch better resale value.

Wall insulation material

Some of the common types of wall insulation materials are -

-  Blanket Insulation – In this type of wall insulation involves pre-ready rolls of fiberglass that are appropriately inserted in the required spacing.

-  Rigid Foam Insulation – This type of insulation involves polystyrene material. Apart from preventing seepage of noise, rigid foam insulation also reduces the loss of heat out of structural features. The polystyrene material must be enclosed with a suitable fire-resistant, like gypsum, so that it does not catch fire.

-  Insulated Concrete – This insulation material is available in the form of hollow blocks made up of concrete.

-  Liquid Foam – The insulation material of liquefied polystyrene is easily injected, poured or sprayed to fill the space that needs to be insulated. It is expensive than other kinds of materials.
